Colophospermum mopane, commonly called mopane, mopani, balsam tree, butterfly tree, or turpentine tree, is a tree in the legume family (Fabaceae), that grows in hot, dry, low-lying areas, 200 to 1,150 metres (660 to 3,770 ft) in elevation, in the far northern parts of southern Africa. The tree only occurs in Africa and is the only species in genus Colophospermum. Its distinctive butterfly-shaped (bifoliate) leaf and thin seed pod make it easy to identify. 

Our Mopani Wood is independantly sourced direct from South Africa via a family business. 

This wood is a great addition to any natural setup and can be fullly submerged within water and safe to use in aquariums. 

Please note, these pieces of wood are long lasting helping to keep that natural look over time, this wood also released humic substances within the water known as "Tannins" which will cause water to go a "Tea Stained" colour. They may also have effects on PH levels.
